Below are two sample plays from our 2025 Playwright Festival

Wanted Man

Submission details:

  • Each play submitted for consideration (3 plays max) carries a NON-REFUNDABLE $25.00 fee. (Details below.)
  • Send an email to BTCplayfest@gmail.com with
    • Subject line: “2026 Playwright’s Festival Submission [NAME OF PLAY]”
    • Your name
    • Contact information (phone number, address)
    • TWO (2) PDF copies of your play(s). (Details below.)
  • Submission of your play allows Brewster Theater Company the right to perform your work in 2026. If accepted, you also grant the right for us to film the show for archival purposes and use up to 10 seconds of it for promotional purposes in 2027.


Formatting details:

Both copies of play should include:

  • Double-spaced between characters, single-spaced dialogue, with proper play formatting and no more than 20 pages with a 12-point font size.
  • A description of characters.
  • A brief synopsis of your play.
  • Page numbers.


One copy should include:

  • Play title and author name.
  • One page with all author contact info: full name, address, email and phone number.
  • Headers and footers on each page with the name of the play and author name.


The second copy should be a blind copy, omitting on all pages:

  • Play title
  • Author name
  • Headers and footers
  • Author contact information. 
  • The name of the file of the blind copy should have the name of your play plus the words blind copy. For example, if your play is called "Play of the Century" the file name of the PDF should be “Play of the Century blind copy.pdf”


Payment details:

Payment is via Square and we can accept all major credit cards.  We do not issue waivers for the fee, plays will not be considered without payment. Authors will receive an email confirming full receipt once we receive both the plays and the fee. FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE. 

Full Length Play Submission

In addition to submitting a one-act play, each author can also submit one full-length play to be considered for 2027.  This will be handled separately from our one-act festival, and we will notify any author in which we have interest by October 2026. We only need one copy of your full-length play and it should have your contact information.

Brewster Theater Company

​Executive Producer

The Brewster Theater Company is looking for new or established playwrights to submit one-act plays for our 6th Annual Playwrights Festival. We are accepting works of all genres (tragedy, drama, comedy, tragicomedy, etc.). If selected, plays will be directed and performed by members of our company and presented at our theater in a workshop format. We would also love to have authors attend a performance and participate in a talk-back with our audience about the work. Selected plays will be performed the weekend of September 11 - 13. You will be notified by June 15, 2026 of our decision. Our submission period for 2026 is now open until May 1, 2026.

Selection criteria:

  • All plays must be a Hudson Valley, New York, premiere.
  • Plays must be in one-act and less than 20 minutes.
  • Authors must own all the rights to their work.
  • Plays must have been written after January 1, 2023.
  • Solo shows must be no longer than 10 minutes.
  • We are accepting all genres
