BREWSTER, NY – With equal parts humor and drama, The Brewster Theater Company presents “Slices of Life: An Evening of One Acts” on Friday June 6th at 8 pm and Saturday, June 7th at 2 pm and 8 pm at St Andrew’s Church in Brewster.

Wendy Greggs and Ed Incle in a scene from 'What's the Story With Frankie Russo.' written by Richard Edwin Knipe Jr and directed by Chris Blossy.

Although BTC has a long resume of main stage productions under its belt, the theater group is dedicated to providing opportunities for burgeoning writers, directors, and actors. Now in its fifth year, The Evening of One Acts has become BTC's primary forum for promoting new talent and material. A total of 27 actors and 6 directors will participate in the show which features 7 short plays, among them original works by returning local playwrights Karen Muendell (Yorktown Heights), and Elizabeth Joyce (Brewster) who both direct their own plays. Award winning playwright Richard Edwin Knipe, Jr whose play ‘Schooling Giacomo’ was recently staged by Philipstown Depot Theater in Garrision also has two plays featured in this year’s show.

Muendell’s piece titled, ‘Solo Mia?’ Is a family-themed comedy/drama while Joyce’s play ‘Going to The Chapel’, is a lighthearted look at single women who commiserate at a wedding. Knipe’s pieces, directed by Chris Blossy (Kent/Carmel), are ‘What’s The Story with Frankie Russo,’ a comedy about middle aged Italian couple and ‘Inner Strength’ a one man show on the subject of aging. Other one-acts include ‘Thing of Beauty’, a dramatic piece on the Holocaust directed by Frank Portanova (White Plains) and ‘Patter for a Floating Lady’ written by comedian Steve Martin and directed by Erin McDonald ( Mahopac).

“Slices of Life” also includes ‘The Lucky Loser’, a piece written and directed by Louise Decker and performed by The Friends Network, a Brewster-based organization for disabled children and adults.

“This production is a perfect opportunity to synthesize the talents of so many people of varying ages, lifestyles and backgrounds into a show that celebrates the full spectrum of life,” says Jennifer Darby, the show’s producer.

This event is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program. In Putnam County, the Decentralization Program is administered by the Putnam Arts Council.
