The Brewster Theater Company Presents “Nunsense”
Cult fave still wringing blessed laughs from comedic crisis

BREWSTER, NY – The Brewster Theater Company (BTC) announces its first musical production, the ever-popular, “Nunsense,” by Dan Goggin. The show will play at the Brewster High School in Brewster, NY. Show dates are October 6th, 7th, 8th, and 14th, 15th. Curtain is at 8pm each night. Tickets are $15; seniors and students pay $13. A “Senior Special” is offered for the Thursday, October 6th performance ONLY. Admission for Seniors on October 6th will be only $7.50 - that's HALF OFF the general admission.

“Nunsense” tells the tale of the Little Sisters of Hoboken who, after an unsuccessful stint as leper colony missionaries, start a new life operating Mt. Saint Helen’s parochial school in Hoboken, N.J. After one of the nuns, Sister Julia, Child of God, accidentally serves up a bad batch of vichyssoise, most of the Sisters of Hoboken die of botchulism. The surviving sisters bury all but four of the nuns when they run out of money. The story takes a divinely comedic turn when the nuns “cook up” a clever, if not holy, scheme to raise money to bury their remaining four sisters – preserved on ice in the storage freezer. Bottom line – It’s heavenly fun!

“This play hits the funny bone of so many people from all walks of life, race and religion,” said Debbie Levin, Nunsense director and president, Brewster Theater Company. “I think it’s because we all, Catholics and non-Catholics, have a common perception when it comes to nuns and their devout and somewhat mysterious vocation. Let’s face it, there’s humor in watching a bunch of nuns let their veils down to grapple with the absurd!”

According to Levin, BTC is tackling its first musical production based on feedback culled from its audiences over the past year. “The surveys we’ve collected repeatedly point to musicals as a genre our patrons and members would like to see more of. We selected “Nunsense” as our first musical because it is so popular, and obtainable from a production standpoint – not to mention that playwright, Dan Goggin, happens to be a former resident of Garrison, part of our hometown of Putnam County.”
