SOUTHEAST’S HIDDEN TREASURE

 

The Old Town Hall on Main Street in the Village of Brewster holds a little known, hidden treasure that has the potential of becoming the centerpiece for the revival of the Village.   If you go to the top of the stairs and through the double doors, you will find a beautiful, turn of the century theater which is just waiting for the proper funding to restore it to use….and benefit for the Village of Brewster and the Town of Southeast.

 

Several local not-for-profit community history and arts organizations are already actively engaged with the Southeast Town Board in support of this renovation, including The Brewster Theater Company, the Southeast Museum, the Putnam Chorale, the Putnam Children’s Discovery Center,

 

We would like to gather at least 1,000 signatures by early to mid February to bring forward to the Town Board to demonstrate the support for this effort from residents of the Town of Southeast, the Village of Brewster and other interested supporters in Putnam, Westchester and Dutchess counties.

Vision for Use of the Old Town Hall Theater

The restored Old Town Hall would support a broad range of activities of interest to all segments of our community such as…..

•         Accessible Musical Events such as Chamber Music Concerts, Choral Concerts and Contemporary Music Events

•         Affordable Local Theater such as Dramas, Comedies, Classic theater, Children’s theater and workshops, and Musicals

•         Topical & Film Festivals....for example, vintage movie retrospectives, youth Film nights, travel logs, informational series

•         Lecture Series, e.g., Financial Planning, Career Development

•         Community Events, e.g., Awards ceremonies, Town meetings

 

Minimum Requirements for Effective Use

The renovation is expected to include the following:

R HVAC:  New Boiler, AC, Insulation             R New plumbing    

R Elevator                                                          R         Restroom updates

R Handicapped accessibility                              R         New windows            

R New front doors                                             R         New front entrance stairs

R Auditorium seating                                                                

R New electrical, including wiring for stage lighting
