Our popular cabaret series kicks off April 7 and 8 with an evening of Broadways Best Dazzling Duets, produced and directed by Amanda Bevacqua with assistance from Pam DeHuff and conducted by BTC Musical Director Melissa Jones.
Bringing a little Nashville to New York, BTC wants you to kick up your heels at our If the Boot Fits... An Evening of Country Favorites cabaret, Directed by Jeane Stein with Musical Direction by Melissa Jones, which will be held on May 5 and 6.
Our summer musical will be URINETOWN. With music by Mark Hollmann, lyrics by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, and book by Greg Kotis, it will be directed by Christopher Gladysz with musical direction by Melissa Jones. A sidesplitting send-up of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, URINETOWN is a hilarious musical satire which provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year drought has led the citizens to use public amenities because of a government-enforced ban on private toilets. A hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! URINETOWN is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. URINETOWN has an outrageous perspective, a wickedly modern wit and a sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Christopher Gladysz, Artistic Director and Vice President of The Brewster Theater Company, is pleased to announce our 2017 season: First up in The Brewster Theater Company’s 2017 Main Stage Season is Neil Simon’s CALIFORNIA SUITE. It's a humorous confection with four scenes: Visitor from New York; Visitor from Philadelphia; Visitors from London; and Visitors from Chicago. Each of the four vignettes in this comedy will have its own director: Mario Riccobon, Christopher Moser, Christopher Gladysz and Nic Anthony Calabro. CALIFORNIA SUITE will be performed over two weekends - March 17 through 25.
In June, BTC will present 12 ANGRY JURORS by Reginald Rose. Directed by Stacy Dumont and Produced by Judy Brewster and Christopher Moser.
A 16-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. "He doesn't stand a chance," mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case -- until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. "This is a remarkable thing about democracy," says the foreign-born juror, "that we are notified by mail to come down to this place -- and decide on the guilt or innocence of a man; of a man we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing." But personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and they become 12 angry jurors. The jurors' final verdict and how they reach it will electrify the audience and keep them on the edge of their seats.
Our fall production, the classic YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU, by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, will take place over two weekends -- October 27 to 29 and November 2 to 4. At first the Sycamore family seems mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder.
In November, Jessica and Matt Vanacoro will helm a cabaret evening Magic to Do: A Night of Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). We finish off the year with our annual HOLIDAY CABARET, directed by Pam DeHuff with musical direction by Melissa Jones, which always puts everyone in a festive mood.
Throughout the year, The Brewster Theater Company will have its Armchair Actor series with productions in Brewster and Southeast, Mahopac, Carmel, and Kent. This group takes to the road to let our neighboring communities know what BTC is up to and it encourages everyone to take part - regardless of experience.
BTC is a non-profit community theater group serving Putnam County and its surrounding areas since 2000. Current and new members are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about production opportunities and ways to become involved in your community's theater on the stage and behind the scenes.
As always, consult the website The Brewster Theater Company for more details. We look forward to seeing you throughout the year at our theatrical events!
