Veronica's Room

by Ira Levin

February 2009

The elderly couple are so amazed that Susan looked exactly like long dead Veronica. When they asked her to come home and pretend to be Veronica to make a dying old woman happy, it seemed like such a small thing to ask. But suddenly, things aren't going the way Susan expected. As a child, Susan was told by her mother, not to talk to strangers. Susan should have listened.

"Veronica's Room," written by celebrated playwright Ira Levin, is a totally absorbing spider's web entwining fantasy and reality. Levin is world-renowned for ''Deathtrap,'' his Broadway thriller, as well as for ''Rosemary's Baby,'' his novel of the supernatural.

One famous theatre critic described "Veronica's Room" in this way: "It's like being trapped in someone else's nightmare . . . with a jarring and surprising climax."

The Village Voice summed up "Veronica's Room" as a "neat, elegant thriller."

Play On!

by Rick Abbott

March 2009

this is the hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does. When the authoress decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax to a thoroughly hilarious romp.

Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

by Ed Graczyk

Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean

October 2009

In a small town dime store in West Texas, the "Disciples of James Dean" gather for their twentieth reunion. Now middle-aged women, they were teenagers when Dean filmed Giant two decades ago in nearby Marfa. One of them, an extra in the film, has a child whom she says was conceived with Dean during the shoot. The ladies' congenial reminiscences mingle with flash backs to their youth; then the arrival of a stunning but familiar stranger sets off a series of confrontations that smash their delusions and expose bitter disappointments.

The Lion in Winter

by James Goldman

December 2008

King Henry II of England has three sons by Eleanor of Aquitaine: Richard, Geoffrey and John. He wants the kingdom to stay united after his death, but all three sons want to rule and it is likely to be torn apart by revolution. Henry favors the youngest son while Eleanor favors the eldest. The middle son hopes to play both ends against each other and come out on top. Henry would like to have another heir by his mistress, but that would only add to the contenders. Uneasy is the head on which the crown lies, and uneasy the truce between a matchless king and queen. This mundane history is glorified in language that is brilliant in its ability to characterize, its rhetorical impact, its actability, and its generative power. Few since Shakespeare have had such a marvelous gift for truly comic repartee.
