The Brewster Theater Company is proud to announce the cast of their
winter 2011 production of the classic French farce Tartuffe by
Moliere directed by Stephen DiRocco and produced by Daniel Bayer.
This production marks a first for Brewster Theater Company; in its
10 years of existence, the theater group has focused primarily on
more contemporary plays, and Tartuffe, which was written in 1664, is
a marked departure from that genre. This version, which has been
translated by Curtis Hidden Page and adapted by director DiRocco and
producer Daniel Bayer, was carefully chosen by the producers as a
stellar version of this classic work. “This play was originally
written in French, so there are many translations out there; we
looked long and hard for a version that we felt was worthy – and
then tweaked it some more,’ states director DiRocco.
Will audiences relate to this show, one might ask. The answer is a
resounding ‘yes’ from both DiRocco and Bayer. The plot centers
around a man named Tartuffe, a religious hypocrite who has set up
lodging in a household; his host Orgon is completely fooled by him
but the man’s family see Tartuffe for who he is. Complications set
in once Tartuffe’s true nature (and treachery) is revealed to Orgon
setting off a chain of events that all are powerless to stop.
“Regardless of the time period the play is set in, the characters
are believable; modern audiences will easily relate to the
circumstances they find themselves in,” says DiRocco.
Cast members include Matt Bogan (Tartuffe), Bruce Tredwell (Orgon) ,
Dilhan Dalo (Valere), Zack Handler (Damis) and Marty Posner (Msr.
Loyal) all of Brewster. Connecticut performers include Lisa
Dahlstrom of Fairfield (Elmire), Chris Luongo of Bethel (Cleante),
Jody Bayer of Danbury (Dorine), and Rachel Corn of Ridgefield
(Mariane). Also appearing is Rita Aber (Mdm. Pernelle) of Somers,
NY.

Tartuffe
By Moliere
When Orgon invites the pious Tartuffe into his household to help his
family lead better lives, little did he know the man’s true nature.
However, the rest of the household sees Tartuffe for what he is – a
hypocrite. It takes seeing the “man of God” engaged in an act of
betrayal to shock Orgon out of his reverie. But Tartuffe’s treachery
has only just begun…
